Usually, this procedure may be performed by a regular dentist under local anesthesia. However, if more than one wisdom tooth is removed at one time or there is a higher risk of possible complications, it is recommended for the procedure to be performed by an oral surgeon. A person needs to be completely healthy when the procedure is performed in order to avoid infection in the mouth. Also, a general anesthesia may be recommended if all or several of person's wisdom teeth are removed at the same time.
